Some koi hobbyists prefer floating pellets to feed koi, because apart from bring out delicate beauty of koi on the pond surface, floating pellets cannot mess up the pond for uneaten pellets can be easily cleaned out from the surface of pond before they dissolve into harmful substances. More importantly, you can see what is happening on the pond such as the fish food, and the diseases examination.
